The jackpot payout starts at $1,000,000 and increases after every draw until someone matches all six winning numbers. If there are two or more winners, the jackpot is shared equally among them (pari-mutuel).

Powerball Lottery Prize Payouts
The Powerball advertised jackpot starts at $40 million and rolls over to the next drawing if nobody wins. Initially the jackpot grows by a few millions, but later it may grow by as much as $25 million after every draw. When there is a winner it goes back to $40 million.
